When Jesus met Simon
Luke 7:36-50
Jesus was invited for dinner in a Pharisees house. There a woman came who had lived a sinful life when Jesus was called for a Dinner.
she bought an alabaster jar of perfume, poured it at His feet weeping.
she began to wipe his feet with her tears then she wiped down with her hair kissed His feet.
When the pharisee who invited Jesus saw this they started to think why Jesus allowed a sinful woman like her to do such an act.
Jesus knew their thoughts and answered Simon through a parable of two people who owed money to a money lender and didn’t have money to pay them back.
So this money lender forgave both of there debts. Now Jesus asked Simon who will Love the most and Simon answered obviously the person who owes more money.
Then Jesus goes on to explain the difference between the Pharisees who invited Jesus into the house to show their Love, and the woman who is a sinner , the way that she showed love to Jesus.
Simon the Pharisee denied Jesus the common courtesies from a host to a guest – washing the feet, a kiss for a greeting, and anointing the head with oil. Yet, he criticized the woman for giving these courtesies to Jesus.
She wasn’t forgiven because of her great love; her great love was evidence that she had been forgiven
The key to her forgiveness was faith – it was her faith that saved her, because it was her faith that believed the words from Jesus your sins are forgiven.
Faith enabled her to take the grace God given to her.
Forgiveness is ready from God; there is no hesitation or shortage on His part.
Our part is to come with humility and loving submission to Jesus, and to receive the forgiveness He offers by faith.
Jesus came to earth to set the sinners free to give freedom for the people who are captive.
We can receive freedom in his presence, and we can take the same freedom that Jesus have given to the people who are living under the power of darkness.
Are we ready to take the good news to others who are in need, who are in need of a Savior, those who are in desperate situation for a savior?
Are your ears attentive to the cry of people who are in need of a savior.
What are we doing with the good news that we have received.
Let us take this is good news to those people who need it the most.
We are the light of this world and the salt of the earth are we bright enough or salty enough to change the world.
Matthew 5:13-16 says “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Let’s pray and commit that we will shine for Jesus and we will be the salt in this world.
