Valley of Dry Bones: Touched by God’s Spirit Part I
[ The Wilderness Series ]
Ezekiel 37
God deeply loved the children of Israel – God’s heart was entwined for the children of Israel because He loved them (Gen 12), and He promised to be faithful to them. To never leave them and to never forsake them.
He promised this to them in Duet 31:6 – “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”
In Ezekiel 37, we see those who poured reproach on God's people, will have themselves to deal with the wrath of God.
God will come to justify and save His people. God promises favour to Israel and that he will restore them.
In Ezekiel 36, the Prophet prophesies that there will be a rebirth of the people of Israel.
The vision that God gave to Ezekiel showed the way the people were defiled and were not buried properly and their remains filled across the valley.
They were in a state of disgrace, lacking proper care and respect. The bones were dry , they were long been dead and the moisture within the bones long gone.
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life. (Jn 6:63)
There was no hope for life to return to these bones. God asked Ezekiel “Can these bones live?”. A natural answer may be God you can make them live. But Ezekiel’s answer was “Sovereign God, only You Know”.
Not only Ezekiel put his trust in this hopeless situation on God but also maybe that God was the ultimate authority to judge whether these bones should come back to life.
"Moreover the law entered, that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound."- Rom 5:20.
In our lives we too are dead because of our sins facing eternal condemnation, but for the saving grace of Christ, saving us from the judgment and law.
Because the the prophet went there led by God, he prophesied exactly as God revealed to him, the large numbers were saved and their lives restored.
Remember that so-called "delayed obedience" is really a charade that masks our covert "disobedience."
They were not only saved, but they were ready for war. God restored them for a purpose, to do His work, and be counted to stand in the Lord’s army.
Today, we too are called to spread the word in a manner as such.
Our lives are blessed because a man of God, a prophet, a friend shared to us about the Christ.
The redeeming power of the Cross enabled our lives to be changed forever.
But we are saved so that we can also change the lives of others.
Others are willing to hear the word if we are willing to speak God’s word to them, like Ezekiel to speak whoever God wants us to reach, even dry bones.
That is the reason we have the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:36) that you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.
To love another as Jesus Loved us. And the Great Commissions (Matthew 28:19), “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”.
Let us Pray
Heavenly father, we submit ourselves into thy obedience. In to your obedience, we submit oh father, and we pray that we may be your mouthpiece that we may speak forth your word, that another life can be delivered, save, restored. In Jesus name , amen.
Blessings & Prayers
