The Sword of The Spirit
Ephesians 6:17
The samurai warriors of medieval Japan believed their swords had spiritual reality and power. These swords were always with them, from birth to death, whether in the bedroom or on the battlefield.
Those who made the swords approached their craft as a spiritual exercise, fasting, praying, and even wearing priestly white robes.
They mixed and hammered layers of hard and soft steel to forge swords that excelled in both sharpness and strength. To the warriors, these swords represented their honour.
We should take the sword of the Spirit with equal seriousness, for its truth and power come from God.
Spiritual warfare is real, for the Devil is scheming how to put stumbling blocks in our path, and if we trust in ourselves to fight these battles we will surely fall.
When we put on the full armour, we rely on His strength rather than relying on our own.
The sole offensive weapon in Paul's armour is “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
There are two words used in Scripture for the word of God. There is the familiar word, logos, which is used in the opening verse of John's gospel: In the beginning was the Word (Logos), and the Word (Logos) was with God, and the Word (Logos) was God (John 1:1).
Then there is another word, rhema, which is different in meaning. Logos refers to the total utterance of God, the complete revelation of what God has said.
Rhema means a specific saying of God, a passage or a verse that has special application to an immediate situation. It is the Word of God applied to experience in the natural.
The sword of the Spirit otherwise referred as Rhema is given to the believer. It is God`s word applied to a specific situation.
From Hebrews 4:12-13 , we understand that God's words are dynamic, purposeful, and powerful. They penetrate and judge us accurately, leaving no room for hiding or self-deception.
They wound us with razor-sharp edges when we harbour sinful attitudes or actions.
Prayer:
Dear lord, thank you for your word that can break open every bone, marrow, and pierce through. Help us to use it wisely, rightly to receive breakthrough. In Jesus name. Amen.
Blessings & Prayers
