Philippians 3:8-11
Loose to gain
The world today is filled with so much data and information - almost anything can be searched within minutes, which previously could take hours or days to find. It is called the Information Age.
One-click or one-touch it is there. But in reality, all of that data or information is not worthy and incomparable to the knowledge and wisdom of God.
All the knowledge of this earth is but a small drop compared to His knowledge.
For all knowledge begins and ends with Christ. To know Jesus more and more each day will enable us to know more, haveing more knowledge and wisdom every day will help us draw closer to Him
But, when we rely on our own strength and ability alone, the outcome or result is likely to be poor. Unless, we surrender all our efforts, works, and achievements to God’s purpose and will. This is because everything of the flesh will fail or disappoint us.
Paul, speaking from his experience when he was going after the early Christians, persecuting them, trusting his own belief and ability.
He believed that he was doing the work of God when actually he was working against God’s purposes and will for his life.
His encounter with the Lord on the road to Damascus transformed him.
Paul knowing Christ alone was the ultimate blessing and best gift that one could ever have, far greater than the gift or present or treasure one could ever receive in one’s lifetime.
So, Paul says all other things, in fact, everything itself pales in comparison to knowing Christ. So pale to become worthless, so worthless to become garbage.
Paul spoke from his experience of the righteousness that is not from his own but that comes through faith.
Rom: 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
Paul was also clear that since we have been raised to new life with Christ, all earthly things and matters will be seen in a lesser light than it was before.
So, let us set our minds on things above, not on earthly things. let us bask in God's grace and mercy with an ultimate view of the heavenly prize, that one day when we enter into God’s glory, then all pain and worries, all pleasures and comforts will fade away, into the Lord’s heavenly light and His embrace.
Let us pray: Lord, we thank you for your Light in our lives.
Help us bring ourselves closer to you and draw nearer to your Word, knowledge, forsaking all and everything else, putting aside all the earthly things.
Let the power of your resurrection strengthen us, enable us to rise above our challenges and difficulties and attain life anew. In Jesus Name . Amen
