The Inspection Gate
Nehemiah 3:31
There were 10 gates mentioned in the rebuilding of the walls. We looked at what these gates were used for and how they remind us of Jesus and His finished work on the Cross!
1. Sheep Gate: reminds us that Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Through him we have been saved.
2. Fish Gate: which reminds us that we are people called to be fishers of men. How desperate we need to repair these gates.
3. Old Gate: It reminds us that the old still exists in us all. Reminds us that Jesus makes us New Creations.
4. Valley gate reminds us that Jesus is with us even during the low and tough times in life.
5. Dung gate reminds us that we have been saved, cleansed from our sin once and for all through Jesus Christ.
6. Fountain Gate The Fountain Gate refers to the Holy Spirit, which springs up in us like a fountain, blessing all those around us.
7. Water Gate The Water Gate can be related to the Word of God. Day by day reading of the Word of God, and hearing the Word preached, cleanses our soul.
8. The Horse Gate The Horse Gate is a reminder of the believers’ warfare because the horse is a symbol of war.
9. The East Gate The East Gate suggests the return of Christ. That, he will enter Jerusalem through the East Gate
10. The Inspection Gate: This gate speaks to us of the throne of Christ where our lives are inspected and rewarded appropriately.
The final gate is the inspection gate, also called The Prison Gate, Miphkad Gate, Muster Gate
and Gate of the Gathering. The word “Miphkad” means “review, census, muster”
and suggests the idea of judgment.
The idea of judgment here represented is that someday God is going to call all souls up for review in the judgment.
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due to us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad. 2 Corinthians 5:10
This gate represents a call to holiness and righteousness as we realize that God is holy and calls those who serve Him to be holy.
The gate was in or near the North end of the east wall of Jerusalem.
If you walked through the Inspection Gate, you would step right out into the court of the temple and be very close to the location of the threshing floor of Ornan that David purchased to stay the judgment against Israel when a sacrifice was offered.
It is upon this same piece of ground that the temple was built so that sacrifices would continue to mark this spot. The story of Ornan’s threshing floor and God’s judgment of David and Israel is found in I Chronicles 21
In the time of Jesus Christ, this place of numbering, or registration, for the Temple tax. This was the Miphkad area on the Mount of Olives east of the Temple and near the place outside the city where the bodies of sacrifices were burned.
This gate speaks to us of the throne of Christ where our lives are inspected and rewarded appropriately. Scripture teaches that at the Second Coming of Christ, angels will gather God's elect
Immediately after the distress of those days ‘the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.
Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.
Matt 24:29-31
At this gathering, the saints will be rewarded according to their faithfulness in doing God's will for them
"Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season? Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing. Assuredly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all his goods. But if that evil servant says in his heart, 'My master is delaying his coming,' and begins to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards, the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him and at an hour that he is not aware of, and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
Matt 24:45-51
In our Christian experience we should be living with this in mind. We are called to live our lives with eternity in view, caring more for the things of eternity than the temporal that we see around us. We need to hear God's marching orders for us at the Water Gate, ride through the Horse Gate to carry out these orders in His strength, looking always to His return through the East Gate.
Prophetically this gate also speaks of the judgement of the nations that takes place when Jesus returns. Mathew 25:31-46.
This last gate is a culmination of all the gates. If we have all the Priority, Purity and Power Gates in place and we are actively seeking the Second Coming of Jesus, we will be rewarded for our faithfulness at the Inspection Gate.
We will receive an incorruptible inheritance and will rule and reign with Christ for a thousand years on earth (Revelation 20:4).
Let us Pray: Heavenly father, help us to be pure and holy on the day of judgement, that we may also be rewarded in eternity. In Jesus Name. Amen.
